Meet the Couple
Brittany is a psychologist, and Alex works for a window company. They’ve been high school sweethearts and finally decided to take the plunge. Brittany loves France, has a strong artistic sensibility, and set high standards for her wedding photos. After thorough research, she chose me as her photographer: that was the start of our adventure!
Engagement Session in the Twin Cities
Although they live in Menomonie, Wisconsin, they opted for a session in Minneapolis at Minnehaha Falls Park. It was a smart move, helping them learn to relax in front of the camera before their big day.
If you’re marrying in Rochester, explore the best engagement spots, from sleek modern venues like the Mayo Civic Center to urban downtown scenes and scenic parks.
Venue Overview

I’ve featured this venue several times (see this summer wedding and this September celebration), so here’s a quick look. Despite its name, the Mayowood Stone Barn isn’t a typical red barn, it’s a rustic historic limestone venue, arguably the most charming wedding spot in Rochester, MN.
This white stone barn once belonged to the Mayo family. The Arched Carriage Way, with its vaulted stone ceiling and brick-paved floor, serves as the reception hall. Upstairs, the former hay loft is now the Loft event room, complete with hardwood floors and exposed beams. The Den provides a cozy space for the groom and groomsmen, while the intimate Bridle Room houses bridal preparations. Outside, a majestic oak tree forms a stunning natural altar for ceremonies.
Wedding Day Highlights
Bridal Preparations took place offsite in a rented Airbnb, ensuring the bride’s gown stayed pristine. She changed at the venue and we captured a quick portrait in the Bridle Room before the ceremony.

Groom Preparations unfolded in the Den, where Alex and his groomsmen shared laughs and nerves ahead of the vows.
Photography

We began with the first look, followed by formal bridal party shots, family portraits, and intimate bride-and-groom images.

I incorporated a vibrant orange-red maple tree wherever possible to highlight the fall theme.
Fall-Themed Details

I love how Brittany and Alex’s color palette (from dresses to florals) was perfectly synchronized. The bright October sun made those hues pop in every frame. Check out the detailed photos for inspiration.
Outdoor Fall Ceremony

Under the old oak tree, Brittany and Alex performed a sand ceremony. A storm days earlier had stripped many leaves, but the remaining orange foliage against a crisp blue sky created a breathtaking scene. We also captured a group portrait of all their guests to commemorate the moment.
Extended Cocktail Hour
A long cocktail hour allowed me to capture candid moments of friends and family. Those images are what will fill their wedding album with genuine joy.

Reception & Dinner

Following heartfelt toasts with a lot of emotion. Just before the first dance, I catch this incredible candid image of the mother of the bride cutting the dress with scissors! After the bride and groom opened the dance floor, the guests danced the night away. When a sudden rain shower fell, I seized the moment to photograph the couple under umbrellas, turning rain into an artistic feature.

I can’t thank Britany and Alex enough for trusting me with the opportunity to cover their beautiful wedding day.
